The Green Globe Artichoke is a Perennial from the Western Mediterranean.
The plants look similar to thistles with silvery grey leaves. Large green flower heads are eaten as a nutritious gourmet vegetable. It is also used as an ornamental.
Cut buds when heads are tight, boil until tender. It grows to approx. 1.5 metre tall and 1 metre across within five years.
Sow approx. 10mm, Spring or after frost. Full sun, moist soil.
