Asparagus Officinalis

Argenteuil Asparagus is a Perennial French Heirloom variety growing to approx. 150cm. It produces long thick tender green spears with purple tips and excellent flavour.  Suitable for blanching. It is an early maturing asparagus and can be picked from the second year (a year earlier than most other varieties).

Sow 10mm in Spring, full sun, in a deep well drained, well composted soil. Animal manures are beneficial. Germination approx. 21 days.

Note: Male plants produce thicker spears so female plants should be removed (female plants produce poisonous red berries). Plants die back every Winter and re-sprout every Spring. Plants should be grown without interference for the first 2 years to establish a strong root structure, once this is done plants will start producing thick spears that can be cut at ground level as they appear.
