Green Ruffles Basil is an annual herb with beautiful lime green leaves that have a unique ruffled appearance. It is larger than common sweet basil and very ornamental so looks good in a large container or garden edge. Flowers are pink, sometimes white. The flavour is is similar to sweet basil, with a hint of cinnamon and liquorice. It will grow to around 60cm in height.
Basil generally does well in a wide range of climates, particularly temperate and sub-tropical warmer areas. It is an exceptionally popular herb in the kitchen, and great to add to tomato dishes and for making basil pesto.
Sow seed approx. 2mm deep in warm conditions, in Spring and Summer, full sun, well drained soil with added well broken down compost. Germination approx. 5 - 10 days. Pick regularly to encourage more growth, ensuring the tips and flower spikes are picked, as this encourages more leaf growth. Matures in approx. 70 days.
