Ocimum basilicum

Mrs Burns Lemon Basil is an Heirloom variety that grows to around 50cm tall, with very fragrant green leaves and pink flowers.  The leaves have a strong lemon-lime flavour which enhances many kitchen dishes, pairing particularly well with fish and chicken.  It is more heat tolerant than other basil varieties, has good disease resistance, and is sometimes known as Lime Basil.  An excellent variety to grow in large containers or pots.

In addition to its culinary uses, Mrs. Burns lemon basil can be cut for floral arrangements. If left to flower, the small flowers attract pollinators and beneficial insects.

Basil generally does well in a wide range of climates, particularly temperate and sub-tropical warmer areas.  It is an exceptionally popular herb in the kitchen, and great to add to tomato dishes and for making basil pesto.

Sow seed approx. 2mm deep in warm conditions, in Spring and Summer, full sun, well drained soil with added well broken down compost.  Germination approx. 5 - 10 days.  Pick regularly to encourage more growth, ensuring the tips and flower spikes are picked, as this encourages more leaf growth.  Matures in approx. 60 days.

20 seeds per packet
