Brussel Sprouts - Long Island Improved are a strain of brussel sprouts that predates modern hybrid varieties. Long Island are thought to have been grown in Belgium as early as the 13th century. The first written reference date is 1587 when they were popular in the southern Netherlands.
The upright plant will grow to around 80cm tall, and produces a bounty of green leafy buds that grow to 4cm. Lovely flavour and are delicious boiled/steamed.
Sow 7mm deep, Summer and Autumn. Full or part sun, moist soil. Once the sprouts start appearing remove leaves from the lower part of the plant. Pick sprouts as they develop.
