Syzygium paniculatum popularly known as the magenta lilly pilly or magenta cherry is a species of flowering plant in the myrtle family Myrtaceae.
A small shrub to 7 metres high, with medium sized glossy dark green foliage and pink new growth. Flowers have numerous stamens and the fruit is magenta coloured, rounded to 15-25mm diameter with a solitary seed. A great feature, screen, hedge or topiary plant that is also good for pots.
- Crisp and very juicy, the aromatic rose-purple fruits are often eaten to quench the thirst.
- The pleasantly sour fruit are also eaten fresh or cooked.
- The fruit can be used to make jams and jellies
