Brassica oleracea

Early Jersey Wakefield is an Heirloom sugarloaf cabbage introduced in 1840. It produces tightly packed green conical heads that grow to around 1kg.  It is an early maturing variety with good flavour.

Cabbage is mainly an annual cool season crop, it is frost hardy. Sow late summer to late autumn depending on area.

Sow seed approx. 5mm deep, Germination approx. 7 - 12 days. Cabbage likes a rich, well-drained soil, prepared with well-rotted compost or animal manure through the bed. Keep the soil moist.

Begin harvest as soon as heads feel solid (approx. 60 days). Covering young seedlings with a net will protect them from White Cabbage butterflies.
