Physalis peruviana

This is a dwarf version of the standard Cape Gooseberry which grows up to 90cm in height when fully grown (dwarf variety). Native of South America.

The tasty small round berry-fruit can be eaten raw, ripe fruits will store in their paper-like husks for several weeks if kept cool and dry.  The husks are easy to peel, revealing the delicious yellow-orange fruit.

This plant is related to the Tomato and grows in the same places and in the same manner.
