Daucus carota
Nantes Carrot is a fast maturing and abundant variety with a crisp sweet flavour. It produces long cylindrical carrots up to around 16cm long.
Cultivate soil well before sowing, it needs to be loose, and mulch well.
Sow directly where they are to grow, approx. 5mm deep, cover lightly with sand or very fine soil and water gently. Sow in either Spring or Autumn, full sun. Germination is approx. 10-14 days.
Preventing the soil from drying out is important for success, covering seeds with shade-cloth or cardboard may help. Lift cardboard or cloth once seeds have germinated. Avoid fresh animal manures as they can cause forking. Maturity approx. 72 days.
