Cymbopogon flexuosus

East Indian Lemongrass is also known as Malabar Grass or Cochin Grass, and grows tall to around 1.5 metres high.  The base and seed head is a purple colour.  Rust resistant and drought tolerant variety.  Suitable for warm - tropical areas.

The fresh or dried leaves are useful in herbal tea or other drinks, as well as soups, stews, fish, meats, or any dish that would benefit from a lemon flavour.  It also has some insect repellent properties.  Suitable to grow in large containers.

Sow seed approx. 5mm deep, Spring in cooler areas, in tropical areas plant during the wet season.  Germination approx. 7 - 14 days.  Full sun, rich moist loamy well drained soil.  Maturity in approx. 75 - 85 days.
