Black Seeded Lettuce is an Heirloom loose-leaf variety of lettuce that has been grown for over 150 years. It produces light green, ruffled leaves with a mild flavour. Tolerant to drought and frost.
Loose leaf lettuces are useful to 'cut and come again', as you can just pick leaves as required.
Sow seed approx. 3mm deep, all year round. Direct sow or sow into seedling trays for later transplanting. Cover seed lightly to approx. 5mm deep as lettuce needs light to germinate, firm down and keep moist. Germination approx. 7 - 14 days. Part or full sun, moist well drained (non acidic) soil. Matures in approx. 50 days.
To reduce the risk of disease; do not overhead water, and avoid watering in the heat of the day.
