Allium cepa

Cipollini onions were originally cultivated in Boretto, Italy in the 1400’s. Originally grown only for domestic distribution, the Cipollini onion travelled across Europe and subsequently to America with Italian immigrants.  In Italian the name literally means "little onions."

They are round and flat, and are about one to two inches in diameter, making them ideal for roasting whole. The flesh is a slight yellowish colour and the skins are thin and papery. They have a sweet, mild flavour and make a lovely addition to recipes where you might want to use whole caramelised onions.  A popular variety with gourmet chefs.

Sow seed approx. 5mm deep in quality seed raising medium, Autumn - Winter.  Germination approx. 7 - 10 days.  Harvest when tops wilt.

20 seeds per packet
