The Golden Nugget Pumpkin is a compact bush variety that produces good yields of small fruit that grow to approx. 1kg. The Pumpkins are round and flattened with orange skin, orange inside and a nutty flavour that is perfect for stuffing, roasting and soups. They can also be baked whole. These pumpkins stores well and are an ideal variety for gardeners with limited growing space. The plants produce 5 to 8 fruit per bush.
Sow approx. 2cm deep, Spring, full sun, moist well drained very well composted soil, well rotted animal manure is ideal. Adaptable to most good garden soils but prefers a rich soil with a generous amount of water in full sun. Germination approx. 5 - 10 days. Maturity approx. 80 - 95 days.
Pinching out the growing tip on a pumpkin plant will divert energy and nutrients to the side branches. This stops the vine from sprawling and taking over the garden; it also encourages fruit formation. Harvest Pumpkins when the stem is brown. Pick with a stem approx 5cm long and dry in the sun before storing.
