Cucurbita Maxima

Queensland Blue Pumpkin is an Aussie icon vegetable well known for it's grey-blue ribbed skin and deep orange flesh.   The fruit is medium to large approx. 3 - 4kg.  Storage life is around 6 months.

Pumpkins require a spacious growing area, fences can be used if garden space is limited.

Sow approx. 2cm deep, Spring, full sun, moist well drained very well composted soil, well rotted animal manure is ideal. Adaptable to most good garden soils but prefers a rich soil with a generous amount of water in full sun.  Germination approx. 5 - 10 days.  Maturity approx. 100-110 days.

Pinching out the growing tip on a pumpkin plant will divert energy and nutrients to the side branches. This stops the vine from sprawling and taking over the garden; it also encourages fruit formation. Harvest Pumpkins when the stem is brown. Pick with a stem approx 5cm long and dry in the sun before storing.
