Salvia apiana

White Sage is a Herb used mainly by the North American Indians, in ceremonial 'cleansing' events.  The white leaves are burned.  It prefers an open sunny position, and is drought and frost resistant.  Reaches a height of around 1m tall, and produces lots of lovely lavender - white flowers through Spring - Summer.

To dry, cut small bunches and hang upside down in a warm, dark, dry place. It makes an attractive cottage garden plant. This herb can be difficult to germinate with a low germination percentage. Germination may be improved by soaking the seed at 30°C for 12 hours before sowing. Then sow by pressing the seeds lightly into the seed raising mix but do not cover, as the seeds need light to germinate. Germination takes around 10 to 14 days. It is suitable for temperate areas, sow seed in Spring when the soil temperature has reached at least 25°C.
