Spilanthes acmella

The acmella oleracea, or Toothache Plant, is a small plant that has been used for over 2000 years to treat toothaches by chewing on its leaves.  The natural antibiotic leaves can be eaten fresh like cress or added to salads.   It is also known as Para Cress.

The toothache plant is a herb that has a host of alternate uses thanks to its antifungal and antiviral properties. It’s been used to treat problems such as athlete’s foot, sore throat, skin conditions, thrush and cold sores.

This little plant is so powerful, it even disinfects small wounds.

Native to South America it is a small, herbaceous plant that belongs to the family Asteraceae, and is usually grown as an annual plant, but it can also grow perennially if conditions are right for that to happen. Can be grown in a pot indoors.  Reaches around .3m in height.
